GEICO is looking for an experienced legal professional with background in working with sales teams to serve as an embedded legal advisor. Your role will be to support the business as they develop new products or ways of doing business and refine their work. You’ll do this by building a strong relationship with your business unit to understand their goals and plans, quickly learning their objectives and how they plan on achieving them, and then advising on legal requirements in language appropriate for smart businesspeople who don’t have a legal background. As you see where your business unit is headed, you’ll also advise them on future risks and opportunities. When your business unit needs specialized legal expertise, you’ll coordinate with your colleagues in the legal department who have specialized skills to make sure your business unit gets the support it needs to excel.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, understand all key business objectives and means of accomplishing them for assigned business unit(s)
Provide legal advice related to business unit’s plans and anticipate future legal needs
Coordinate support for assigned business units from other parts of the legal department
Use wide range of legal knowledge to issue and spot any implications of business choice that could interact with multiple legal subject areas such as privacy, insurance compliance, consumer-protection laws, intellectual property, and contractual obligations
Basic Qualifications:
Must have at least 8 years of experience at a law firm or in-house and preferable 6 years specifically legally advising on insurance, E-commerce or sales of regulated products.
Must have a law degree and an active law license to practice in the United States of America
Strong listening and communication skills
Ability to quickly digest and understand business plans, processes, and procedures
Ability to provide legal advice with incomplete information
Superb judgement about legal and legal-adjacent risks as well as mitigation opportunities
Must be solution oriented
Preferred to have experience in product counseling or as a product attorney
Must have demonstrated experience solving business problems and advancing business metrics
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 5 years’ legal experience focused on one or more of the following areas:
Homeowners insurance sales, service, and underwriting
Insurance-agency operations
Experience working for an insurance agency or insurance company focused on personal lines P&C products
Experience providing legal advice for an E-commerce or outside-sales business
Location: Hybrid – This position requires the individual to work 2-3 days onsite

Annual Salary
$145,000.00 - $254,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
