GEICO is looking for an experienced legal professional to support our sales and marketing departments as a legal advisor. Your role will be to support the business in its efforts to sell insurance. You’ll do this by gaining a strong understanding of GEICO’s sales and marketing; including covered products, business goals and business plans; then advising on legal requirements in language appropriate for smart businesspeople who don’t have a legal background. You’ll collaborate with other attorneys on your team to support the business, and when your business unit needs specialized legal expertise, you’ll coordinate with your colleagues in the legal department who have specialized skills to make sure your business unit gets the support it needs to excel.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, provide advice and propose solutions for problems that arise related to sales and marketing
Provide legal advice related to business plans and anticipate future legal needs
Coordinate support for assigned sales and marketing with your team and from other parts of the legal department
Use wide range of legal knowledge to issue and spot any implications of business choices that could interact with multiple legal subject areas such as privacy, insurance compliance, consumer-protection laws, intellectual property, and contractual obligations
Basic Qualifications:
Must have at least 2 years of experience practicing long, with a strong preference for experience at a law firm or in-house, preferably supporting companies that sell to consumers
Experience working in property & casualty insurance, financial services, or other regulated services industries preferred
Fluent in English; Spanish is a plus - speaking and writing
Must have a law degree and an active law license to practice in the United States of America
Strong listening and communication skills
Ability to quickly digest and understand business plans, processes, and procedures
Ability to provide legal advice with incomplete information
Superb judgement about legal and legal-adjacent risks as well as mitigation opportunities
Must be solution oriented
Preferred to have experience in product counseling or as a product attorney
Must have demonstrated experience solving business problems and advancing business metrics
Location: Hybrid – This position requires the individual to work 2-3 days onsite at our Chevy Chase, MD or New York, NY location

Annual Salary
$148,000.00 - $230,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
