Position SummaryThe Business Development Manager has a vital role within the organization and is responsible for identifying and cultivating business opportunities that align with our strategic objectives for electric and gas services. This position primarily focuses on new and existing land development entities for the purpose of identifying, creating and nurturing business opportunities and relationships to support the company's growth objectives. The Business Development Manager plays a pivotal role in expanding our market presence, ensuring client satisfaction, and company growth through effective project and contract negotiation including deal closure. The Business Development Manager directs resolution of critical or escalated situations concerning their developments and or developers as needed.
Primary Position Responsibilities- Build and maintain strong and lasting relationships with existing clients, understanding their needs and ensuring satisfaction.
- Prepare and deliver compelling proposals and presentations to prospective clients, selling CoServ's products/services and tailoring solutions to meet their specific requirements.
- Act as a liaison between clients and internal teams as needed to ensure smooth communication and delivery of services pursuant to contractual obligations and company expectations.
- Identify potential areas of growth/development throughout the service areas.
- Negotiate contractual terms and conditions, pricing, and service options by collaborating with legal, engineering, construction, and finance teams to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with city personnel, such as but not limited to, economic development corporations to solidify business development leads.
- Prepare regular reports for the executive team, summarizing activities, client feedback, and trends concerning business development activities.
- Collaborates with the executive team to develop and refine business development and negotiation strategies to align with company goals both in the development space and the company as a whole.
- Initial and continued communication with the appropriate segments of CoServ Electric and CoServ Gas concerning the status of new and in-flight development projects.
- Proactively collaborate with land development and engineering entities to solidify business development leads and relationships.
- Attend meetings such as: City Council, Planning and Zoning Committees, Economic Development, Commissioner's Court, where published agenda items may impact business development efforts or other areas of the company.
- Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
- Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities- Provide guidance to internal and external entities as the subject matter expert in the following areas:
- CoServ Electric and CoServ Gas Tariffs
- CoServ Electric and CoServ Gas service agreements.
- Develop and expand knowledge of CoServ Electric and CoServ Gas rate structure.
- Performs other duties and activities as directed.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesPosition RequirementsEducation and Certifications Required- High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5 years of proven experience in business development, key account management, sales or utilities may be considered in lieu degree.
Education and Certifications Preferred- Graduate Degree in business, marketing, or related field.
- Certified Key Account Executive (CKAE)
Experience Required- Utility experience in electric and gas distribution, Business Development and/or other extensive relationship centric work experience.
Experience Preferred- Electric and gas utility industry experience within the Business Development, Marketing or Economic Development space.
- Contract development and negotiation.

- Extensive experience of electric and gas utility infrastructure and installation practices.
- Capacity to develop and implement long-term business strategies.
- Skill in planning, executing, and overseeing projects.
Physical RequirementsIn-office - Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.
- Indoor, office environment with occasional development site visits as required.
- Works off campus 50% of the time attending events, lunches, or client office visits.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Ability to drive as needed.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to work flexible or extended hours as needed or directed.
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Other Requirements- Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
- Ability to travel, if necessary, for business and training.
